Poems and planning for National Poetry Day

At Reading Fluency we love our poem-of-the-week routine so I thought I could write a set for National Poetry Day.

This year's theme for National Poetry Day is Wonder. These poems are designed to inspire that sense of wonder in all of us.

Each poem comes with a week around it: a plan, the poem itself, the vocabulary cards and the syllable stacks. The routine is the one we use: hear it, grow it, show it. They are designed to be read either as just one of the poems within a class or reading group, or, if you wish, as part of a much bigger whole-school performance. You can use the chant to bridge between each.

I've really enjoyed working on these poems over the last couple of weeks. If nothing else I hope you enjoy reading them aloud with your children.
